It’s very easy, when your fingers are speeding across the keyboard, to write The dog wagged it’s tail…. The use of the apostrophe here is incorrect. Its in this case is possessive, and when used in this way, there is never an apostrophe. It’s always means “it is”. The apostrophe in this case takes the place of the i in is.
