11 Sep A Grammar Blog: “Who” and “Whom” again
A clever New Yorker cartoon (May 28, 2012) shows a man tapping on his keyboard with his computer screen in front of him, and behind him a woman looking over his shoulder at the screen. She says, “It’s ‘She’s driving me crazy and I’m not sure whom to turn to.'”
Whom is correct because it’s the object of the preposition to: “I’m not sure to whom to turn.”
In a sentence like this, however, insisting on correct grammar is a losing battle. along with the old insistence that you can’t end a sentence with a preposition. To whom to turn is awkward syntax.
